The Top 10 Best Dressed at the Cannes Film Festival 2017
From 17th– 28th May 2017, the annual Cannes Film Festival was held on the glamorous Côte d’Azur, France, on the famed Palais steps. The Cannes Film Festival is always a star-studded event—from film stars to models, artists to directors—but this year was particularly special as Cannes celebrated its impressive 70th anniversary.
Here at Jinnie Femme, the home of European luxury fashion, our favourite part of Cannes is (of course!) checking out the stunning gowns on the red carpet.
Our top 10 best dressed at Cannes 2017 epitomized the beauty and elegance of luxury fashion.
1. Elle Fanning in Dior
At this year’s Cannes, Elle Fanning stole the show. With Elle’s countless beautiful gowns this festival, it was hard to choose our favourite, but this Dior Spring/Summer haute couture 2017 gown was simply stunning. Inspired by Van Gogh’s “Jardin Fleuris”, and constructed by laying the dress over the painting to match the colours and pattern, each petal was hand-sewed using hundreds of feathers.
2. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen
At the opening gala, we adored Jessica Chastain’s black embroidered Alexander McQueen pre-collection Fall-Winter 2016/2017 gown. This sweetheart bodice dress with a sheer panel featured intricate bird and floral stitched detailing, and looked radiant against her fiery locks.
3. Nicole Kidman in Rodarte
Nicole Kidman wore so many beautiful dresses at Cannes this year that it was hard to choose one! While many loved her Calvin Klein tutu dress, we fell in love with her Rodarte Fall/Winter 2017-2018 sequined cropped jacket and skirt at the premiere of “How to Talk to Girls at Parties”. While some hated it, we simply adored the vintage gold sequins, delicate peach ruffles, and high neck as Nicole embodied 1920s glamour.
4. Lily Donaldson in Dior
At the “Loveless” premiere, model Lily Donaldson looked like a dream in this Dior dress. With a sheer, boned corset bodice and a tulle ballet-style skirt with tiny polka dots, this petticoat was simply adorable. Finished off with Cartier jewellery and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Lily looked timeless.
5. Doutzen Kroes in Balmain
Model Doutzen Kroes sparkled in this long-sleeved, sequin-embellished silver custom Balmain mermaid gown on the red carpet of “The Beguiled”. The gown featured a sheer panel and a long, glistening train. With her slicked-back hair, the look had a striking effect.
6. Sonam Kapoor in Elie Saab Couture
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor looked divine in this custom Elie Saab couture gown at the screening of “The Meyerowitz Stories”. This pale pink chiffon gown wass embellished with intricate detailing, cape sleeves, a train, and a delicate belt.
7. Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture
Julianne Moore was glowing in this red Givenchy gown at the premiere of “Ismael’s Ghosts” adorned with delicate feathers, cape, and embellishments—and finished with Chopard jewellery.
8. Fan Bingbing in Elie Saab Couture
Also at the screening of “Ismael’s Ghosts”, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing looked like a fashion superhero in this sheer, flowing, powder blue Elie Saab Couture gown with capelet and gold belt.
9. Rooney Mara in Dior
In understated elegance, Rooney Mara opted for a white silk Dior dress with a collar and embroidery at the Cannes closing ceremony. With contrast black heels, clutch, and sunglasses, she looked super cool.
10. Diane Kruger in Dior Haute Couture
Diane Kruger looked whimsical and romantic and in this lilac vintage-look Dior haute couture custom embellished, tiered dress, yet added a modern twist with a backless design and a very-2017 choker.
