22nd Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

22nd Critics’ Choice Movie Awards

On the 22nd January 2017, the 22nd Critics’ Choice Awards was held in Santa Monica to celebrate the best of cinema and television. The annual awards are presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), comprising the views of over 300 of the industry’s journalists and critics. The Critics’ Choice Awards are renowned as most accurately predicting the Academy Award nominations.

At this year’s event, big winners included Jackie and Manchester by the Sea picking up three awards each, and TV show The People v. O.J. Simpson collecting four awards. However, the real winner of the evening was La La Land, a critically-acclaimed romantic drama starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. This beautiful piece is about an aspiring actress and a musician who meet and fall in love in the “La La Land” that is L.A. La La Land took home eight awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Song, and Best Score.

22nd Critics Choice Awards

Our favourite part of these glamorous award ceremonies is undoubtedly the red carpet! Seeing who wore what, which dresses wow the crowds, whose outfit really stood out. So our best-dressed winners for the night were (drum roll please)…

Best Original Dress

Bryce Dallas Howard in Topshop takes our “Best Original Dress” award. Unlike most of our red carpet attendees, she purchased the dress herself for a mere $240 from this high street store. Black beaded straps set off this Greek-goddess, plunging, chiffon, mustard maxi dress. Bryce is right on trend, as shades of yellow are spot on for Spring and Summer 2017.

Best Ensemble Outfit

Evan Rachel Wood in Altazurra wins our “Best Ensemble Outfit” award. Conveying expectation, she hit the red carpet in a stunning ensemble of tailored black suit, an Anita Ko choker, black satin belt, and satin Christian Louboutin heels, rather than the traditional gown. This upcoming season, the sophisticated “Wall Street” pantsuit look is right on trend.

Best Costume Dress

Krysten Ritter in Zuhair Murad wins our “Best Costume Dress” award. With its stand-out low back, plunging front, sheer panels, and highly decorative beaded pleats, this wine-coloured gown is truly fit for a princess. In Spring and Summer 2017, the cinched waist style is gloriously on trend.

Best Dress Design

Nicole Kidman in Brandon Maxwell wins our “Best Dress Design”. This black cut-out gown is incredibly designed. With a high front slit, it’s right on trend for this spring and summer’s styles. Set off by Fred Leighton jewels, platinum Art Deco broaches, and Gianvito Rossi heels, Nicola was designed to perfection.

Best Visual Dress

Lily Collins in Elie Saab Haute Couture wins “Best Visual Dress”. Her flared sleeve, jasmine macramé gown is beautifully romantic. With a Victorian collar, lace-style embroidery, and dark lipstick, she looked simply wonderful. With this semi-sheer gown, Lily is right on trend for the upcoming season.
