In Winter 2016/17, there are some wonderful festive trends on display, many of which were showcased at New York Fashion Week Fall 2016. So feast your eyes on these stunning on-trend dresses!

1. Tinsel dresses

Nothing screams Christmas more than a Tinsel-tastic dress! This winter, don a tinsel-inspired dresses on the rack to give you that extra sparkle. From classic black glittery dresses to all-out gold or red, the aim is go big or go home!

Think Christmas-tree-flapper-girl and you can’t go far wrong. Sleeveless shift dresses with shimmery tinsel strands or sequins make for fantastic Christmas outfits. Our favourites are D&G’s silver sequined dress and Saint Lauren’s red sequin silk dress.

2. Velvet dresses

When it’s cold outside, there’s something wonderful about running your hands across soft velvet. Velvet is winter’s favourite fabric, seemingly never going out of fashion, but this season’s velvet dresses are particularly magical.
Our favourite is this Preen by Thornton Bregazzi Alexa dress in classic black. With a sweetheart neckline, eyelash edging, and a bustier bodice, ruched side, and handkerchief hem—it’s the height of luxury.

We also love this Baja East Sparkle dress, also in black velvet with a glittery shimmer. There’s sexy front and back cut outs and an asymmetrical hem for the wow factor!

3. One-shoulder 80s-style dresses

It might be 2016, but the 80s are back in full swing! Body-hugging one-shoulder dresses are bang on trend for the upcoming party season. You can opt for a truly-80s patterned one-shoulder dress, a fantastically ruffled fabric, or a vintage shade. Team them with opaque tights and pixie boots for a cute 80s vibe.

Our favourite is Ashish’s bedazzling Shoulder Bow Dress in metallic mauve sequins with an oversized bow in true celebration of the 80s. Or you can take a more modern twist on this 80s classic with Victoria Beckham’s classy knee-length black Crepe and Lace dress.

4. Metallic dresses and metal details

This winter, metal is one of the hottest trends on show. From metallic fabric dresses to metal details, including hoops, embellishments, and safety pins, you’ll find it everywhere.

Our top choices are this RtA Yves dress in metallic grey. This shimmery silver leather dress is high necked, long sleeved, but super short with an added side leg split zip so you can really show off your pins!

Or try Zimmerman’s Karmic Metallic Billow dress. In metallic green, it features a “cold shoulder” design, low cowl neckline, belted waist, and full three-quarter skirt. Think Marilyn Monroe’s famous dress but glistening

5. Renaissance dresses

Winter is a time of gorging on delicious food and buying extravagant gifts for our loved ones (and sometimes ourselves). So what better way to celebrate the finer things in life than with a Renaissance-inspired dress?

In Winter 2016/17, 400-year old fashion is making a comeback. From long velvet skirts to fitted bodices with lace-up corset, bell sleeves, high necklines, and gold detailing—the Renaissance is alive and well. Think rich colours—burgundy, navy, and gold.

We adore Ellery’s Gasp dress in black with a gold sheen from knitted metallic threads. With a high neck, fitted waist, back slit, and bell sleeves, you’ll look resplendent. Another historic-inspired dress is Saint Lauren’s metallic silver gown, with a simple design made sexy thanks to a long leg split, v neck, and tie shoulders.
