British Fashion Awards Winners for 2016

British Fashion Awards Winners 2016

The Fashion Awards is a long standing awards ceremony that celebrates the best of British and international designs. It was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday 5th December. Fashion’s hottest names (and a few new contenders) appeared in some stunning outfits for the awards ceremony.

The range of awards were presented by industry influences like Lady Gaga and Jared Leto. The awards also raised proceeds for the British Fashion Council’s Education Foundation which helps aspiring fashion designers to break into the industry.

Whilst we could write a whole article just about the amazing outfits on the red carpet, we wanted to look at the winners and see who it up and coming in Fashion 2017.

The Categories & Awards

There were a total of 15 awards presented across a range of categories, from International model to British Brand. You can read more about who won each award here. With winners of awards like Jaden and Willow Smith to Sime Rocha, the night was full of talent and attended by everyone who is someone in the fashion industry.

Here are our favourite winners of the Fashion Awards 2016, one to keep an eye on over 2017.

British Emerging Talent

This award was presented by Alexa Chung and Jordan Kale Barrett to Molly Goddard. This award is in recognition of the ground breakers of the fashion industry. Goddard’s unusual designs are eye catching and certainly a talent to keep an eye out for in 2017.

International Urban Luxury Brand

Marilyn Manson presented the award to Vetements in recognition of his contribution to the sportswear industry. This brand focuses on creating pieces that are original, and not just a reinvention of old fashion. Vetements wants to bring fun back to fashion and challenge the status quo, which we certainly think they will do in 2017.

British Womenswear Designer

Following in your parents footsteps can be exciting, but you also have to work extra hard to make your own name. Simone Rocha for Simone Rocha won the same award for her contribution to the British fashion market 23 years after her father who won the same award. We’re excited to see what she will do in 2017 with her unique sense of style.

International Ready-to-Wear Designer

Carine Roitfeld and Stella Tennant were excited to this award to Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga whose collections have set global fashion trends which is no small matter.  The ready to wear fashion market is huge and it takes artistic ability and influence to get the masses wearing your designs.

British Brand

It wouldn’t be the Fashion Awards without recognizing homegrown talent. This award presented by British model Naomi Campbell recognizes the impact a British designer brand has had on the international stage. The winner of 2016 was Alexander McQueen and its creative in house team.

As as well as seeing the likes of Jaden and Willow Smith win Fashion Icon we saw many other great designers recognized for their hard work and energy that brings something new to the stage each season.
