Art Inspired Fashion
Fashion is about making a statement, and the best kind of fashion statements are the ones that come out of the blue. Fashion moves so quickly that it’s easy for some designs to start blending together. We’re always on the lookout for something striking, so when we came across the concept of art inspired fashion, we were thrilled! If you’re inspired by art, you’ll be inspired by the latest trend of clothing inspired by art.
For some designers it’s often hard to tell where their inspiration comes from but from some of the recent sightings at various fashion events, it’s clear to see that art has been inspiring some of our favourite fashion designers big time. One of the stand out pieces was a gorgeous dress in white with a striking blue pattern with a subtle yet female form. This was apparently inspired by a great French painter who would paint his models in bright cobalt blue. Whilst the paint was still wet he would get press paper on the model’s body to get an print. By adding this to clothing, the designer Phoebe Philo created a moving, almost life life rendition of this artist’s work.
Many other designers have taken inspiration from art and are creating stunning clothing and accessories that will make any art lover happy. Art takes many forms and fashion is no exception, it’s a great way to express yourself. Other designers who are getting on board with this new trend include Hillier Bartley whose bags feature scribbled eyeballs. If you like Picasso’s striking style then, one of these bags or jackets might be perfect for you.
It’s not just modern art that’s inspiring new trends, older artists and their works are paving the way for some very unique looks. Hieronymus Bosch was a medieval painter who was famous for painting religious scenes. Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli collaborated with Zandra Rhodes on creating a stunning new range of day dresses, jackets and coats that have detailed life scenes on them. This range made use of neutral colours for the background of the prints. If you’re after wearing art, these more subtle prints are an ideal way to show off your love of art.
How should you style wearable art?
When exploring the world of art inspired fashion it can be overwhelming to decide how to wear it. With some much colour and texture available, where should you start? The best way to start is to find a piece that you love and build your outfit around it. If there’s a stunning jacket you love then consider keeping the rest of your outfit coordinated in tone.
An art inspired jumper would look perfect for work with tailored trousers and heels. The same jumper could also be worn for casual occasions with skinny jeans and relaxed boots. Accessories are a great way to give a lift to your everyday outfit, especially a stylish scarf or stand out handbag. A patterned skirt would look perfect year around with a plain shirt for formal occasions or with a slim tank top for the summer months.
However you choose to wear art inspired fashion, you’ll be ahead of the trend.
